Why do I have library fines?

If items are returned late, it will result in fines on your account. Items that are long overdue and are considered lost will result in a processing fee and a replacement fee.

Check your MHC email for reminders from the library about due dates. Information about loan periods and fines can be found on the Library's Borrowing Page. If you need an item longer, some items can be renewed at your Library Account or by contacting the library

If you feel like a fine has been applied to your account unfairly, you can complete a Fine Appeal Form and return it to the library.

Reasons why fines cannot be appealed include, but are not limited to:

  • Lack of awareness/knowledge of these Borrowing Terms.
  • Failing to note due dates.
  • Failing to renew on time.
  • Failing to receive courtesy and overdue notices.
  • Failure to return materials because the borrower was out of the city/country.
